Ethics & Integrity

The research group serves as a forum for advancing European
scholarship on ethics and integrity in governance, with a strong
commitment to producing impactful theoretical and empirical research
on contemporary governance and government. The group focuses on
the complex intersections between ethics, integrity, administration, and
governance.

Through a focus on issues such as but not limited to public values,
democratic backsliding, ecological change, and corruption, the group
explores broader questions around embedding integrity within
governance systems during times of change. This includes examining the
design and effectiveness of ethics regulation and oversight mechanisms,
the influence of organisational culture on ethical behaviour, and
tensions between compliance-based and values-based approaches to
integrity management.

While the group is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and supportive
environment for researchers at all career stages, early career scholars,
including doctoral and postdoctoral researchers, are especially
welcome. The group is committed to developing innovative formats for
engagement that promote new forms of dialogue and collaboration.
In essence, the group is deeply engaged with the evolving landscape of
governance, addressing both enduring questions and emerging
dilemmas. By encouraging a combination of theoretical and empirical
research, we aim to build a research agenda that will drive a richer
understanding of how ethics and integrity emerge as objects of practice
at a time of increasing complexity and change.
